As characters in The Matrix discover the nature of the simulation, they learn and unlock new abilities and equipment, which they use to fight a seemingly endless horde of interchangeable faceless enemies, a synopsis that could describe the vast majority of video games. The titular Matrix itself, being a massive simulation housing all of the world's population, is essentially nothing more than a huge video game. The Matrix has always been a great property for video games, with two AAA titles and an MMO having released in the 2000s. Matrix Awakens Should Lead To More Matrix Games The tech demo is meant to showcase the power of Unreal Engine 5, with the teaser claiming it will offer “ a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with UE5 in this free, boundary-pushing cinematic and real-time tech demo." The experience may not just serve to show the power of Unreal Engine 5, though - the Matrix theme could very well mean there's interest in developing more Matrix video games worthy of the license.

While The Matrix Awakens isn't a full game itself, it could show what a future Matrix video game would look like. The experience also promises performances from Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, with a digital render of Neo appearing in the teaser and posing the question " How do we know what is real?"
